The Daily Maverick is reporting on frustrated South Africans who are having to endure long queues and wait times at Home Affairs departments across the country. This is ahead of the need for IDs for the upcoming local elections, as well as the school holidays. At the same time, the department has been reducing active staff due to Covid mitigation measures.
South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, responded with a statement on Monday saying that home affairs offices will have a temporary extension in opening hours.
